Who we are

This privacy policy describes how personal data collected through the website https://www.aquariology.org is processed. The site is the editorial publication of Aquarium Click and is run by Francesco Avezzano, data controller within the meaning of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (“GDPR”).

For anything concerning the processing of personal data you can contact us by email at info@aquariumclick.it or by telephone on +39 328 065 4142.

Processing of data in comments

When visitors leave a comment on the site, we collect the data shown in the comment form, together with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string, in order to help detect and prevent spam.

The email address may be anonymised (hashed) and sent to the Gravatar service to check whether a profile picture is associated with it. Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once a comment is approved, the profile picture, where one exists, is publicly visible alongside that comment.

Uploading media

We ask users not to upload images containing geolocation metadata (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site could extract that information from published images.

Cookies

The site uses technical cookies and, in some cases, third-party profiling cookies to improve browsing, remember user preferences and monitor interaction with external content.

Comment cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may choose to save your name, email address and website in cookies. These cookies are kept for a maximum of 12 months and serve to make future comments easier.

Login cookies

If you log in with personal credentials, cookies relating to authentication and screen display are saved. These cookies last up to 48 hours, while display-preference cookies remain active for 12 months. If you select “Remember me”, the login cookie lasts two weeks.

A further cookie is created if a user publishes or edits an article: this cookie contains no personal data and simply records the article ID. It expires after 24 hours.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content such as videos, images and links. Embedded content behaves in exactly the same way as if you had visited the external website hosting it.

Those websites may collect personal data, use cookies, employ tracking systems and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including where you hold an account with those platforms and are currently signed in.

Recipients and transfer of data

Your data is not passed to third parties, except where required by law or where expressly stated. If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the email sent automatically, for security purposes.

The data collected may be processed by authorised persons or by IT and anti-spam service providers acting as external data processors, in accordance with written agreements.

Data retention period

Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely, unless the data subject requests their deletion. This allows us to recognise and automatically approve any subsequent comments rather than holding them in a moderation queue.

If you register on the site, the information supplied in your user profile is also retained. You can amend it at any time, with the exception of the username. That data remains stored until the account is voluntarily deleted or the user requests its deletion.

Rights of the data subject

Under Articles 15 to 22 of the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • access your personal data;
  • request the rectification or erasure of your data;
  • restrict or object to processing;
  • receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format (portability);
  • lodge a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la Protezione dei Dati Personali).

You can exercise your rights by writing to info@aquariumclick.it.

Anti-spam checks

User comments may be checked by automated spam-detection services, in order to protect the security of the platform and the integrity of its content.
